Name of Album - Good Girl Gone Bad
Artist/Director - Rihanna
The genre of this CD cover 'Good girl gone bad – By Rihanna' is R&B, this is told by what Rihanna is wearing, a very glamorous dress, which therefore reflects on her wealth and beauty, this is also told by the makeup that Rihanna is wearing. Due to that her makeup looks natural but does look made up, this again reflects on Rihanna glamour and tells us that somebody must have taken time to put on Rihanna's makeup, again reflecting on wealth. Also the use of wearing rings and earrings is a typical symbol of wealth and 'bling bling, represents glamour again another traditional trade mark of the R&B lifestyle.
The artist is included on the front cover, this is to tell the buyer whose album it is and use their fame and recognisable image to sell the album. Also due to that Rihanna is the only person able to be on view on the front cover tells the audience that she is a female solo singer due to that an instrument is not used on her front of her album but only her. Also by the way that Rihanna's hair covers half of her face tells us of she may have a 2 sided or changed personality. So looking at her previous albums, this defiantly tells us of a change of image from an innocent younger singer to a sexier independent singer.
The name of the artist centred in the middle of the front cover, by centring the title makes this main focus point for the album. The name of the artist is also in higher caps lock making the title big and bold, therefore making the artist name stand out more to the audience. The artists name is in the colour blue to contrast with the black and white background, which therefore is the only colour on the front cover, therefore making this the main part of the front cover. Whilst if you look at the name of the album 'good girl gone bad', even though it is in white, this does stand out to the eye to the background. But the size of the album name is so much smaller than the name of the artist, this is because the producers who have made this album what the audience to first be attracted to the name of the artist due to that she is famous (to sell the product), then to look at the name of the album, then decide if they are going to buy the album. The name of the album is aligned to the right of the front cover, therefore enabling the audience to see & recognise more of the artist's body and image. Also the Titles of the front covers are both parallel, which tells us that this is a normal singing album not a crazy rock style artist.
A plain background is used on this front cover with a use of a spotlight on Rihanna, therefore to create more contrast on the artist so therefore the audience can easily view Rihanna straight away. Also the use of using artificial lighting (a spot light) is also another typical mark for R&B representing the fame lifestyle of being in a spotlight all the time, then also could reflect on Rihanna's and her music being also very classy and modern. Also the use of Rihanna wearing a white dress against a dark background again creates more contrast to that the audience can view Rihanna more. No props or other objects have been used in the background, so therefore makes all attention towards Rihanna. The Body language used in this front cover is a very stylish and sexy body language, with the use of seeing Rihanna from the side full length we are able to view all curves of Rihanna, then reflecting on her sexiness. Her hand gesture is very sexual, due to is covering in area, but again could also imply on shyness. Therefore for both of these reasons this shows that this album could be attractive to both male and female audiences.
I think that the target audience for this album cover is for females who would relate to Rihanna’s music. I also think for an older or younger audience, due to that female teenagers would also be interested in her and her music due to that they may see Rihanna as a role model. I also think that R&B fans and fans of Rihanna would also be interested in this music due to that they have known and heard of this type of music before.
