Camera
We used a close up shot of the opening of the note to identify to the audience that this is a key moment within our music video, of when Rhianna realizes that Nathan love her.
The camera, follows Rhianna and Nathan when they are passing back to the 6 form, this is to reflect on Nathan following Rhianna. Whilst the camera is at a slight angle showing the unease tension.
At the end a mid length shot which lets use view Nathan and Rhianna joining in hands, is used to reflect on the joining of the couple. Then a side shot of the couple is used to emote that scene making the last scene romantic creating a good ending effect on the audience. Due to that we can see a story unfolding this tells the audience that this music video is also narrative based.
The movement of the camera when Pete walks away from the fight is jagged and ruff, this reflects on Pete’s emotion of irritation. After this is the first love scene between Rhianna and Nathan of which they are positioned in the centre of view making them the centre focus, then the camera zooms onto the couple to emote and show the couple starting to join together.
In the band shot Nathan has been brought to the front showing that he is the main band singer, then Pete and Rhianna on the back on drums. This reflects on their authority in the group and that showing the storyline of Pete being in the middle of Nathan and Rihanna’s relationship. We moved the camera around the band to make the filming more effective as if the band was performing live.
Mise en Scene
The actors of which we have used are the actual band members; this is because this band is a new starting out band. So therefore are wanted to sell the image and become as recognisable as possible so by being the main characters in the video is a very good method of doing this. Therefore by having the young members in the music video, this tells us that the audience that it was aimed for is young also. Also by using two males and one female, it is stereotypical that the two males in our fight over the girl , so we used theses actors to make it clear to the audience that this was our storyline. The band is also starred in the same image on the album cover and in all of their adverts on their website. This has also been done to sell their image and make them recognisable as possible. I think this was effective way to sell the band, due to that they are playing their instruments in the image and the red & blue colour scheme is used, telling us that this is a performance band.
Props
Rhianna thought-out the narrative is holding a bag, due to women are typically known for carrying handbags, this reflects on Rihanna’s that she has a feminine personality.Books have been used in the background of the library due to it is typical to see books in a library. This reflects on the characters that they are smart students due to when we see someone with a book we see it as someone with knowledge.
We also used a computer in our filming of when Nathan is typing out he loves her. This reflects on that our music video is for a young modern audience due to they are typically known for using MSN. Therefore this reflects on the band that they are also a young and modern band.
In our band shots is the band playing their instruments. This has been done to show that they are playing live & that this music video is performance based reflecting on the band that they are rock genre based.
Lighting
When the fight scene takes place we filmed on a darker day, due to that we wanted to set a mood for this scene. This was to emphasis the upsetting emotions through the natural dark lighting. Then we shot the lovers scene in the garden on a natural bright day to show the change in mood of when Rhianna is cheered up by Nathan.
We used natural lighting for the scene for the busses due to that this scene was set outside in the daytime; we wanted this scene to look natural.
Setting
The garden was used for the fighting scene due to we wanted this scene to flow straight on to the lovers scene. In the fighting scene the spacing is a lot more confined to show the confined tension that is arising between Rhianna & Pete. Then we also used a garden for the lover’s scene due to it set a scene of romance. On this scene we used a mid long shot to make the setting more open and therefore showing the open relationship of Nathan & Rhianna.
Make up
The boys make up is fairly natural in the narrative showing us that they are normal typical masculine men. Whilst Rhianna in the narrative does wear some make up, to show that she takes care in her appearance and by doing this that she is feminine. By putting on make up this shows confidence due to that she is putting on that make up to look good for boys.
In the band shots this band does not wear heavy but natural make up. This tells us that this band does not belong to a heavy metal band but a more rock/pop genre based band.
Sound
On the lyric ‘my heart’ Nathan whilst performing & singing in his band brings his hand to his chest emphasising the action of his heart and emphasis his emotions.
‘To be loved, to be loved’ ‘what more could you ask for’ has been timed in with the argument of Rhianna &Pete. So theses lyrics illustrate the sound of that argument.
In the second versus, the artist talks about last night he had something to say, but the girl didn’t hear it. We made a link between those lyrics and our visuals of that Nathan on msn was going to write I love you, but backspaced it so that she didn’t read it. This tells a clear story narrative relating to the song lyrics of the song.
On ‘waste theses words’ a close up of the written note by Nathan is shown. Linking theses lyrics to the visuals the audience can recognise that theses are going to the words that are wasted. Therefore this tells the audience that this is a key moment in the music video.
Editing
We have used fade outs as a transition on our music video to tell the audience that the setting and scene has moved on, giving a smooth flow from one shot to the next.
In the library scene we added lighting in this scene due to we wanted the colours of the bright library to really stand out, to tell the audience that this is a young people environment.
