I have found that both of theses videos belong to different genre groups. One (Nirvana) a very rock based video, focusing on the aspects of teenagers showing a teenager rock & roll lifestyle. Also being set in a school hall, emphasis the look of teenagers and the use of instruments and head banging are typical symbols of rock. The use of fast paced drum beats to this music and video shots tells us that this is rock genre music, and therefore makes the video more exciting. The shots of this video tend to be shorter as well to emphasis this fact.
Whist the other (Patti smith) belongs to a alternative/ country genre. This is shown through being set in a home, having shots without people in them. An unusual video, with slow paced rhythm and video shots making the video less exciting. Even though the video does have images of instruments in the video which also tells us that this is a band, this also could be applied for the nirvana video. Using a black & white effect makes the video look old, which tells us that this video is a lot less exciting than a rock music video. You can also tell the genre of this video by listening to the accent of the singer, therefore telling us that this is not a rock video. At the very begging seeing a model of a head is something which we would not expect to see in a music video, therefore makes the video unusual.
