Analysis of Album Cover 1

Name of Album - The sound of Girls Aloud, the greatest hits
Artist/Director - Girls Aloud

The genre of this album ‘The sound of girls aloud, the greatest hits’, is pop first due to the disco dance floor which reflects on the genre of this album due to that dancing is typical known for being pop. By having the front cover set on stage, this straight away tells us that this group and are performers which reflects on the genre of pop by having the black figures outlines dancing. Also having expensive equipment set around the group this would reflect on wealth which therefore reflects on the genre of pop.

The use of using shooting stars on their album reflects on their fame, but also by having an England and Irish flag in those shooting stars tells us that this is an English and Irish band. Then by not showing the group fully but in small black figures, this tells us that this group is really well known due to that they don’t need to use their image to sell their product but just their name. Also by using 5 microphones in the background this tells us that this is a group. Also by having the girls in sexy positions, this also shows of their curves, therefore their sexiness. Also the last girl performing on the right hand side, you can see her high heel shoe which also would reflect on that this is a girl group.

The artist name is in big bold lettering which makes this stand out to the eye. It also uses a very large red shadowing which therefore catches the audience’s eye to that point. The title is centred in the middle of the front cover, therefore making this the main focus of the album. Also the title is tilted to different angles which also reflects on the audience being younger. This Is also outlined in black to make the title stand out from the background. The album name is spread across two parts of the album cover, so the audience is able to read the full name diagonally. Due to that these parts of the title are much smaller, tells us that theses parts are not as important as the name of the band. The reason why the name of the band is bigger is that this would be the selling point to the buyer saying this is the artist of this album. Also because that all writing are all in the same font, this tells us that if read diagonally, this is the full title not just artist name and album name. Using a pink shadowing on the albums name, this less stands out to the audience than the artist name and also baecuse is postioned on white background with only pink, this stands out less to the audience aswell. The word are also angled as if they are coming out at you therefore draws impact on the audience.

Having the spotlights at the side of the album cover this creates a frame and by having the spotlights turned to the middle all our attention is set to the middle of the front cover, where the group is performing so all our attention is set on them. Also by having the use of spotlights also reflects on the fame lifestyle of ‘in the spotlight.’ Also by having the girl group without any costumes, but as black blocks, this creates less contrast, therefore makes us look more at the title of the album cover than the actual band themselves. Having a plain white background makes more contrast so therefore we look at the objects ‘title, dance floor, girls’ more than the background. The shot that is use on this front cover is a long shot due to that they are remaking an event when the girls are performing. Also by having the title, stars and tambourine drawn like they are coming at us, this makes more impact on the audience and makes theses things are centre of attention.

Also with the use of bright colours (for example in the stars) and a cartoonist style on the front cover tells us that this is aimed at a younger audience for a genre of pop. By using bright pink colours on the album tells us this is a girl group due to the colour pink reflects on femininity, therefore reflects on a female target audience. I also think due to that English and Irish flags have been used on their album cover I think this album would be aimed at an English or Irish audience. I also think fans of girls aloud would be interested in this album due to that this is their greatest hits album. Also one of their original songs, ‘Sound of the underground,’ so by using ‘the sound of’ on their album cover, this title becomes recognisable to those fans therefore is targeted at those fans.
