Analysis of Music Video 1

Artist/Director – Lily Allen

1.Genre Characteristics – The genre of this music video is pop which is indicated by wealth. Examples of this would be huge mansion, waiters, balloons, decorated furniture, cakes. Also the red carpet used when Lily Allen is dancing which may indicate fame.

2.Relationship of Visuals & Lyrics - The lyrics ‘want lots of money’ is shown through the background by having a less wealthy place of living, this therefore reflects on her dreams. The shot of a toy car ‘Fast Cars’ reflects again dreams, and due to that a toy car is used represents that this is a childish dream. The song Is called ‘The Fear’ but Lily Allen doesn’t act scared but not sure how to act ‘not sure how to feel anymore,’ with a spinning bird’s eye view shot of lily Allen shown here.

3.Relationship of Visuals & Music - The main choruses start at main points in the video, for example the first chorus when Lily Allen enters a mansion and the last when Lily Allen turns and leaves the mansion. This is use to show impact on the main points of the lyrics, also used more to market the song to remember lyrics & but song.

4.Close up of artist & image motifs - Lily Allen’s expressions limited, due to her acting being famous, but at the end emotions & expressions come back due to stopping acting. Also due to that she is acting she could also been seen as mechanical body language ‘programme to function.’

5.Reference notion of looking - Lily Allen is mostly covered which suggests no reference notion of looking, but does often wear dresses which shows her curves which could imply sexiness. Also gesture of ‘shameless’ when covering herself up also can imply shyness.

6.International reference – Lily Allen often known for Long hair & fringe which is a typical image for Lily. Use of sexy dress could imply sex symbol.

7.This video is Narrative based due to Lily Allen singing to cameras. It is also performance based due to dancing and acting in the video.
